One of reggae’s premier awards show, the IRAWMA Awards celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Singer Blac Spade pays tribute to the long-running event with IRAWMA, his latest song.

The track is produced by Thug Chemis.

“I sing the IRWAMA song because it was recommended to me by my publicist. I did some research about the show and completed writing it in one day,” said Blac Spade.

IRAWMA is Blac Spade’s follow-up to Rasta Live, a single that defines his sound.

“I would describe my sound as more of a cultural content, meaning I sing my songs for everyone to enjoy while bringing a positive vibe,” he said.

Blac Spade is from Brown’s Hall in St Catherine. His decision to become a professional singer stems from listening to “a lot of yesterday and today artiste”, the most noted being Bob Marley.

While pleased that he paid homage to the IRAWMAs, Blac Spade said Rasta Live has given him the greatest career thrill to date.

“It feel really great to release a new song and hear it play on the radio. It is my first major project,” he said.

Founded by Ephraim Martin, the IRAWMA Awards honours the previous year’s top achievers in reggae. Its 40th edition took place in May at Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston.
