A prolific songwriter since his late teens, Rasta Blacspade never tires of composing music. That tireless penmanship resulted in I Love You, his first EP which was recently released.

blacspaProduced by Dub Chemist, it hears the New York-based singer working with some of reggae’s top musicians including saxophonist Dean Fraser and bassist Flabba Holt of the Roots Radics Band. Their distinctive touches are aimed at helping to broaden his base.

“I want to reach out to audiences outside roots music. This is an EP for everyone, because it speaks to issues which affect families across the world,” said Rasta Blacspade.

He added that, “It (I Love You) is redirecting our attitudes which are fundamental to the upliftment of the entire human race.”

Rasta Blacspade came into 2024 with momentum, thanks to songs like the optimistic Love Over All Things. But for his most ambitious project, he needed a like minded producer like Dub Chemist and tried and proven musicians such as Fraser and Holt.

For the artist, who is from rural St. Catherine parish in Jamaica, it was mission accomplished.

“l am excited knowing that I wrote all the songs, the production is great in a sense that we have some of the greatest musicians alive on it,” said Rasta Blacspade.

While he is a trained mechanic, Rasta Blacspade knew from early that music would play a big role in his life. To achieve that, he moved to Jamaica’s capital Kingston in the 1990s where his ability as a singer/songwriter was noticed by acts like Luciano and Steely and Clevie, then the hottest producers in dancehall music.

Love is the word from Rasta Blacspade

Prior to production on his debut EP, Rasta Blacspade was sure of one thing. He wanted to work with some of the leading musicians from Jamaica.

He got his wish, as some of reggae’s premier session players are on ‘I Love You’, the EP which was released in November. Rasta Blacspade, who lives in New York, wrote its seven songs which are produced by Dub Chemist.

It was important for the singer to have a say in his biggest project to date.

“l am excited knowing that I wrote all the songs, the production is great in a sense that we have some of the greatest musicians alive on it including (saxophonist) Dean Fraser, (bassist) Flabba Holt and (percussionist) Bongo Herman, just to name a few,” said Rasta Blacspade.

He added that there was cohesion with Dub Chemist throughout production. They agreed that one of the objectives of ‘I Love You’ is to expand his base.

“We matched our ideas, as I want to reach out to audiences outside roots music,” said Rasta Blacspade.

To help them achieve that, they recruited Fraser, whose lofty credits include hit songs and albums by Black Uhuru, Tarrus Riley and Lauryn Hill. Holt, co-founder of the Roots Radics Band, was the driving force behind the success of Bunny Wailer and Gregory Isaacs during the 1980s; while Bongo Herman is one of reggae’s most prolific percussionists.

Known for songs like ‘Heart Nuh Leap’ and ‘Love Over All Things’, Rasta Blacspade began writing songs over 30 years ago, and launched his recording career in the 1990s.

Rasta Blacspade drops I Love You EP, blending reggae with powerful messages of love, unity, and social change.
Yonkers, NY – February 13, 2025 – Rasta Blacspade, the Jamaican-born, U.S.-based reggae sensation and finalist in the prestigious International Reggae and Music Awards (I.R.A.M.A.) 2023, has struck musical gold with his latest project-his highly anticipated 6-track EP, I Love You. Produced by veteran Jamaican producer Dub Chemist, this EP is a powerful collection of songs that speak to the universal need for love, unity, and social change.

Described as “an EP for everyone,” I Love You addresses critical global issues affecting families and communities. Dub Chemist, known for his ability to blend music with meaningful storytelling, emphasizes the EP’s impact:

“If each of us would say ‘I love you’-to the Creator and to one another-there would be more peace and fewer broken pieces in our lives.”

The standout track, “Love Over All Things,” has already gained international attention for its powerful message about choosing humanity over materialism. According to Rasta Blacspade, the song serves as a reminder that society’s obsession with wealth often overshadows the pillars of survival-love, unity, and peace.

“Instead of more weapons, we need more hospitals, schools, and jobs to fight poverty,” says Rasta Blacspade.

Other notable tracks include “Hail Jah,” “High Herb”, “Rasta Live,” “Be Like the Sea,” “Africa Love,” and the title track “I Love You.” These songs have resonated deeply with fans, achieving chart success in Europe and the Caribbean. “Rasta Live,” for example, has amassed over 200,000 views and continues to gain traction globally. Meanwhile, “Africa Love” is on its way to becoming an anthem across the African continent.

Beyond his music, Rasta Blacspade is deeply committed to social causes. He has actively supported fatherless children in Jamaica by contributing to back-to-school expenses and has pledged to increase his sponsorship efforts by 100% in 2025.

He is also one of the most outspoken reggae artists on social and political issues, advocating for:

* Lower customs duties in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl
* More community-driven projects for Labor Day
* Increased focus on education and the inclusion of Marcus Garvey’s teachings in schools

“With the release of I Love You, all eyes are on Rasta Blacspade-an artist destined for greatness,” says Dub Chemist.

Born Wade Douglas in Brown’s Hall, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Rasta Blacspade discovered his love for reggae at the young age of six. He balanced music with his education, attending Brown’s Hall Primary School before moving on to Tacius Golding High School, where he earned a Business Diploma while simultaneously refining his musical skills.

Although he initially struggled to gain traction in Jamaica’s competitive reggae scene, his break came when he moved to Kingston and was invited into the studios of reggae legends Luciano, Al Campbell, Steele, and Cleavee. Recognized for his versatility and unique sound, he quickly gained respect within the industry.

By 2012, Rasta Blacspade achieved international success with his hit single “Heart Nuh Leap,” released on the Traveling Man Riddim. His momentum continued in 2023 when he released “Rasta Live”, produced by Dub Chemist Muzik, which became a major hit in the Caribbean and on global reggae charts.

His song “Irawma” was specially released for the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) 40th Anniversary Show in Jamaica and earned him a top-three finalist position out of 1,000 participants-a remarkable achievement in the reggae industry.

Rasta Blacspade is now gearing up for international tours and is eager to bring his message of love and unity to audiences worldwide.

“Music is my passion, my purpose, and my way of connecting with people. I look forward to sharing my journey with fans everywhere,” he says.
